Two Friday’s ago I cleaned out the drawers of my London desk, bid farewell to my European colleagues, and embarked on a seven week hiatus from the corporate world. I wish I could say I’ve done something wild and crazy like quit my job to travel the world permanently but I’m not that free-spirited. I’m lucky to work for an empathetic company who understood when I said I needed some recovery time between expat life and restarting my next role back in Seattle.
I’m a week and a half into this mini break I’m affectionately referring to as Summer Vacay 2015 and so far I have a few observations. First of all, I’m way too restless to retire yet. I need routine and work to stay sane. Of course I love vacation but too much free time means too much time for self-reflection, a good thing only in modest doses for this overanalyzing head of mine. Second observation, Irish skin requires SPF 50+ after two years in gray, rainy London. My freckles are in full force with this latest influx of vitamin D.
Here’s how I’ve spent my time so far…
I still have some more adventures in store after this European leg of the tour including a few more days in London, a U.S. National Parks road trip with my Dad, and quality time in Oregon with my family before starting work back in Seattle again.
I’ll be sharing more from Summer Vacay 2015 before September but if you’re curious about the play-by-play you can catch me on Instagram @ladyrelocated. Thank you for your support and words of kindness and inspiration throughout this expat adventure. You’re not rid of me yet, blogland.
Cheers from Sorrento!
