Is it Christmas vacation yet? I’m so ready for a break and a trip longer than 72 hours. Don’t get me wrong, I love trips in all shapes and sizes, but I need two nights in a row of 8+ hours of sleep. Fortunately, I just have four workdays between me and two weeks off. As the British say, “I’m chuffed!” (translation: “Cool!”).
I just returned from a jaunt to Amsterdam over the weekend. I say jaunt because it’s only an hour flight and it probably took me longer to commute to the airport on the tube than to actually fly there. It was phenomenal; I loved it and it exceeded my expectations in every way. Bikes, canals, nice people, interesting museums, and delicious desserts made for a great trip.
- Christmas jumper (aka sweater) day at the office. Thanks to my generous housemate I borrowed her “I love Santa” jumper and fit in with my coworkers who all made an effort to partake. The British enjoy ugly Christmas sweaters as much the Americans, something we can agree on!
- Housemate dinner on Wednesday night to a very posh British pub called The White Horse in Parsons Green. It was wonderful getting to know my housemates outside the house we share.
- Scoring tickets to see Beyonce in London. JT and Beyonce in the same year, I’m chuffed!
Upcoming travel plans:
Paris and Ireland (Dublin, Kilkenny, Cork) are next. Then the rest of the world in 2014…I wish. Le sigh.
Tearfully finished The Book Thief. Seriously, I cried for the last 50 pages. Now onto more depressing reading, just started The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank after visiting the house her and her family hid in while in Amsterdam. I want to read it while the layout of the house is still fresh in my mind.
No TV recently, but I did coerce my coworker into loaning me the full seasons of Dexter Season 8 and Homeland Season 3 from his collections. Major score.
Coming up this week:
Tim arrives in London on Saturday, I’m chuffed!*
