It was my first holiday away from family and friends back in the states today. I went to work, met some other American friends at a pub for dinner, and came home and watched an episode of “Modern Family” online. Very un-Thanksgiving-like of me. Even though I can’t be with everyone I love in person, I still have a lot to be thankful for this year.
At the end of April Tim and I were able to travel to Australia for two weeks to visit one of my best friends and her husband during their expat experience. It was the trip of a lifetime and I hope to return to Australia again soon.
My sister is my #1 best friend in the world. One time I told her that and she was like, “whoa, let’s not get crazy”. She keeps the whole family in check and I hope she visits me soon so we can be reunited…hint hint. To represent her fun-loving personality, here she is below in Hawaii pictured with a cat who doesn’t belong to her or anyone we know, but she made it her mission to bring him to our condo on the 4th floor via elevator. Success!
When I was in Girl Scouts we sang this song “Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold.” That song should be my theme song. I am so thankful I’ve made wonderful friends in every stage of my life and stay in contact with existing friends and keep meeting new friends along the way. I’m especially thankful for the ladies back in Seattle who made me feel so at home there.
When I tell people I have a boyfriend back in Seattle I’m fairly sure their response is (1) I’m crazy to move to London without him or 2) he’s crazy to stay with me. I’m thankful to have the support of this guy to selfishly pursue my career and travel goals for the next 15 months while he waits for me back in the states.
My sister got a special shout-out but I’m thankful for the whole family. My mom and dad helped me so much in the process of moving to London and their support means everything. I lucked out in the family department big time.
Wherever you are in the world, Happy Thanksgiving and may you have many things to be thankful for this year!
