It was a milestone week, I moved into my first London flat! After writing my moving day post I packed up my suitcases and hailed a cab to the new house. Here’s how it looks after I unpacked and decorated a bit.
Luckily it was furnished with the basics and artwork so I didn’t have to do much beyond adding pillows.
Side note – I underestimated how difficult it would be to move without a car. I was quite the sight as I walked with 6+ shopping bags of sheets, towels, UK appliances, and pillows from the mall to the bus stop. If there’s a “next time” of London relocation I’ll be renting a car or finding some British car-owning friends.
I love the view out my new windows, and I didn’t take a picture but I have a small balcony with a chair where I can sit and drink my coffee in the mornings (when it’s not raining).
In other weekly news….
On Wednesday at lunchtime I walked with a coworker from our office across the Millennial Bridge to St. Paul’s Cathedral (less than a 10 minute walk). St. Paul’s is considered as the center of London and from the time it was rebuilt in 1710 until 1962 it was the tallest building in London and its dome is among the highest in the world.
I paid £16 for a pass that lasts me a year (so visitors, I will go back with you) and climbed the 500+ steps to the lookout point at the top of the dome. Did I mention I wore heels that day to work? It’s not for the faint of heart; about halfway up the climb I remember I disliked heights. But of course there was only one way up and one way down, and I couldn’t turn back. That is why I don’t have any pictures of the view, I was too busy hyperventilating at the top to really enjoy it. I’ll have to go back and try it again because from what I remember the view was phenomenal.
I booked flights to Berlin in mid-November with co-workers and Amsterdam in mid-December with a friend. Both are 3-day weekend trips and I found flights around £100 roundtrip each via EasyJet, my new favorite discount airline. I still need to figure out lodging, recommendations welcomed!
Okay last week when I said I was “still reading” The Husband’s Secret that was a bit of an exaggeration because I had barely gotten past page one. However, I’m still committed and will start it tomorrow on my flight to San Francisco.
Finished Season 2 of Scandal and caught up with the current season of The Mindy Project online. I love Mindy Kaling.
Heading off on my US tour tomorrow, starting in California, winding through Oregon and Washington, and capping things off in HAWAII!
